You know...my feelings towards Martha Stewart have always been feelings of indifference. On the one hand, it's hard to debate her status as a domestic diva, media mogul, and shrewd business woman. On the other hand...she has a personality that doesn't exactly scream warmth, she wasn't particularly interesting to me, nothing about her made me want to know more about her.

Nevertheless, I totally FELL IN LOVE with her creation, Bluepring Magazine. It was basically a stylebook for the frugal, trendy, crafty woman...aka ME! It contained everything from tips for daily fashion, picking wallpaper, making your own Christmas gifts, designing a home office, storing stilletos, and making yummy yet quick appetizers for a 10-person dinner party. I typically took away AT LEAST 10 good ideas PER ISSUE. I had developed a relationship with this magazine. I became dependent on it. I stalked the mailbox when I knew it was about time for my next issue to arrive. It became an important part of my life. It was, essentially...my stylebook.

AND NOW...

MARTHA STEWART HAS DISCONTINUED MY MAGAZINE!

And what is the consolation prize...REAL SIMPLE MAGAZINE!

NO THANKS MARTHA! I am so sad...infuriated...angry...disappointed...I don't know what to do.

I know in the grand scheme of things...life will move on and I will be ok. But for now...I will mourn. Mourn the loss of my dear friend...Blueprint Magazine.

Out with the old, In with the new

As I stand at the threshold of a new year, I decided that it is a good time to assess my wardrobe. My closets are full, my drawers are even fuller, and my wardrobe runneth over, and over, and over. And there is absolutely no need to take this excess baggage into the new year.

Out of everything in my closet, some things I wear frequently, others not so frequently, and some I don't even pull out at all. Out of the things I wear, there's a percentage of items that I probably should bury and forget, and out of the things that I don't wear, there is a percentage of things I should bring to the forefront. For example, I recently unburied a great purple wrap sweater that's a smidge too big, however, it's nothing a large decorative safety pin or a brooch, used as a closing mechanism couldn't fix in a jiff. Purple is a great color, and tailoring the sweater to fit me turned out to be more flattering than wearing a pre-sized sweater with no fitting options. So why was it buried beneath all kinds of things I should never wear ever again??? I have no idea!

So when deciding what to take with you into 2008 and what to leave behind, here are three questions you should ask yourself:

* Does the item fit? If the answer is no, that could be the determining factor. This does not necessarily mean that those jeans that you just barely button closed should be tossed, but the ones that don't make it past your knee-caps should be.

* Does the item require alterations or have any holes or missing pieces? If the answer is yes to any of these, you then need to ask yourself the follow-up question: will I actually alter, sew or track down the matching button for the garment? I have several items tucked away in the closet that needs a stitch or a button or a hem. If this is the case for you as well, start the new year repairing the items that you like. The others should be donated. Maybe someone else will take on the task.

* Is the item relevant? Are you holding on to those Hammer Pants because you expect them to make a comeback any day now? Some styles are better left in the decade they came from and erased from your memory. If they are just taking up space, consider getting rid of them. If they are Hammer Pants...I BEG you to get rid of them.

Ladies...clutter should be considered a four-letter word. Try your best to go into the new year clutter-free. Remember, the ultimate goal is to be chic, and nothing about too-small Hammer Pants with the hem falling out comes even close. Let it go, and strive to be the chicest you you can be in the new year.

CHIC Storage for CHIC Things

If you're like me, you rarely let a cute accessory pass you by. If you're also like me, finding a place to put all of your must-have trinkets is beginning to become a bit of a challenge. That's why I LOVED what I saw in the January / February 2008 edition of Blueprint Magazine. They presented some chic storage solutions for jewelry and accessories. Here are two ideas that I will be trying IMMEDIATELY.

Open Drawer Policy: Take your cute, vintage china, saucers, and teacups, arrange them in your drawer, and JOILA! Now you have individual cubbies for your bracelets, rings, and earrings! How cute is that??? If you're out of drawer space like me, I'm sure you could figure out a cute arrangement to put on top of your dresser as well.

Boxing Rings: Get a shadow box. Paint, wallpaper, or use it as is. Attach a few doorknobs and hooks to it and PRESTO CHANGE-O! Now you have a great place to store your necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Insert a small dish on the ledge of the box and now you have additional storage for your rings!

And what makes these ideas even better is...you could probably find these things in a run to your favorite thrift store! If not, you definitely could pick up some chic jewelry to put IN your new chic storage at your local thrift store.Whatever you do...make it cute, make it fun, and most of all, make it CHIC!

The bad news is...what's done is done.

The GREAT news is that we are planning to do it again...and again...and again in 2008! The girls have decided to make the FASHIONISTA FLEA MARKET a regular event with dates and places to be named each month beginning in March 2008. So be sure to stay tuned!

And if you missed it, here's a snippet of what was missed. Bargains and fashions GALORE for sure! Tasty treats, make-overs, spa essentials, and did i mention the chic bargains??? Just see for yourself!

I know I was supposed to be selling, but it was so hard to not get my shop on! I went home a satisfied customer...and vendor. Oh well...I'll try to do better next time...though I'm sure I'll just get caught up in the chic clothes and cheap prices yet again...

If you haven't thumbed through a copy, I highly recommend checking out Blueprint Magazine, Martha Stewart's guide to home, fashion, and personal style. It has some chic and fresh decorating and entertaining tips for those of us that are budget-conscious, as well as some thoughtful fashion tips. I found this awesome tip in the May / June 2007 issue.

It shows you how to turn that plain fold-down jersey skirt that you wore all summer into a cute tube dress with one flick of the waistband; pair it with some cool tights and maybe even a wide belt, and now you are ready to carry it forward into the fall like that's how it was always meant to be worn.

Chic Handmade Accessories

I love accessories! One look in my jewelry boxes and you may even say that I love them TOO much. The perfect beaded bracelet or cool earrings add just the right flair to any outfit. And of course, different outfits require different beaded bracelets or different cool earrings. So naturally, when you find those perfect little accessories, you must get them in different colors, materials, sizes, shapes, etc. Hence, this is the thinking that has my jewelry boxes overflowing.

If you missed Saturday's Flea Market, you missed quite an event. Chic had a total blowout...the sales were literally OFF THE HOOK! Many people went home that day delighted from their virtually free new wardrobes.
